#FindsFriday I'm back, internet willing, w fine copper brooch decorated w gold plates + gold wire, set with polished garnets. Mid 7th C. From #Saxon grave of wealthy woman in London's Covent Garden, found w silver rings + glass beads, probably in a bag around her neck. London Museum collections. 🏺

The painted decoration shows an #octopus, swimming in an abstract seascape. The jar comes from the #Minoan palace at Knossos, on the island of Crete, and was created in the 15th century BCE., would have been used for storing agricultural produce such as olive oil or wine.

Following our aurochs discovery this week, Rita and Emily have now started taking a closer look at the remains, alongside a nice red deer antler from the same feature. There’s a lot to get through, we'll have more 🐂 news soon!

Various finds from the Aldwark Viking camp in North Yorkshire - the temporary base used by the Viking Great Army during the 870s. Currently on display as part of the ‘Viking North’ Exhibition at the Yorkshire Museum in York. 📸 My own.

A beautifully proportioned statue of Juno Regina (Queen Juno) at the Clayton Museum, Chesters Roman Fort, Northumberland. Presumably her head lies somewhere under the soil nearby, awaiting excavation.
