Pitch Pines (Pinus resinosa) at Crane Beach in MA. Leaves needle-like in bundles of 3 (2 for Red, 5 for White Pine), are thick and stiff like Red Pine. They are adapted to fire, and do well with sand, salt, and coastal disturbance.

Looking up at gnarled bark and poorly abandoned (dead, braking, persistent) lower branches and into the crown of a 20+m tall Pitch Pine, with Roundleaf Greenbriar in and Red Maples behind. Blue sky and dark green canopy through pine branches on the mid left.
