Out of political & religious motives, he energetically undertook 2 bring abt unity of faith w/in the empire. Theodosius on February 28, 380, w/o consulting the ecclesiastical authorities, issued an edict prescribing a creed that was to be binding on all subjects. (4/27)

As we’ve discussed previously, Dictator’s utilize a minority’s religion to ingratiate themselves w/in that community, & to provide themselves w/ a legitimacy w/in the religious leadership’s eyes. Overtime, an abusive relationship is built w/in the religious community w/the Dictator. (10/27)
