The National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Warning in effect for the island of Hawai‘i & surrounding waters. Tropical Storm Warning in effect for Maui County, O‘ahu, Kaua‘i. High Surf Warning for E-facing shores of Hawai‘i Island & Maui with 25-30ft waves on Hawai‘i Island.

The wind and waves will be tremendous, but the real threat is going to be the rain and floods. The insane amount of moisture running right into that 4000 meter wall of mountains is reminiscent of Helene hitting the Smokies.

bsky.app/profile/will... It is all too easy to focus on the storm's path and narrow one's perspective to the question of whether or not it will make landfall. However, do not forget the presence of a water vapor conveyor belt surrounding the tropical cyclone.
