A black-and-white landscape photograph of the former Coastguard Watch House at Orford Ness, Suffolk. The deteriorating dark building stands left of centre on a wide expanse of shingle, with its damaged roof, chimney and collapsing lower structure clearly visible. Far to the right is a much smaller rectangular concrete structure, separated from the watch house by a broad stretch of open ground. Behind them, a narrow bright strip of sea runs along the horizon. The foreground is densely textured with dark shingle, while most of the frame is occupied by a large pale grey sky crossed by faint linear clouds. The isolated structures appear small and exposed within the open coastal landscape.
