After the rain.

After a rain, what remains of a mangled old tree trunk about 12 feet high has grown a vivid green head of new, leafy hair. The brightness of the fresh green leaves and of the grass surrounding the old stump is truly astonishing.

They frequently end up as a huge trunk with a few little branches growing out. I have two of them right close to my house and was very happy to find they hadn't dropped any limbs yesterday in the storm.
