Bezo is going to FAFO that if the WP continue with its BS, it will be a has been news organization.

Killing the wapo under an greedy oligarch won't kill democracy.
Thanks hustler, your rage is $120/year right? The free version is a scam alert.

Dumped the Post a few years ago... Not sorry.
The Washington Post has already died in darkness. Bezos ensured that. Now it's just the "Washington Hoe" to me. I trust very little, (if any) mainstream media anymore.
Chip Pate · 1 · 3h ago
Some of us who subscribed and read The Post for four or five decades — from print to digital — had enough and decided to walk away forever. No chance in hell we're interested in a $2 op-ed.
Solid Gold Robot · 0 · 3h ago
The WaPo, until fairly recently, had the best investigative journalism in the world. It's too bad they've fallen apart.
It's funny because I tried to read that article. They did exactly what you said and I said I don't want to read it that much.

WaPo's truth died in Bezos' darkness...just rump propaganda now so....PASS

What? No sympathy for Jeff Bezbos needing money to buy Liverpool FC?

Oye, if you're still reading the Washington Post... put a bullet in your head.
$2 or $2,000 makes no difference to me - Homey don’t play dat
Ash McGonigal · 0 · 3h ago
Maybe I'd read that if they paid me $2. If it's under 500 words.
Dad Bod E · 0 · 31m ago
WAPO reminds me of WACO. IDK why.
litzz11 · 0 · 3h ago
They should pay US to read Ramesh Ponnuru. And more than $2, too.

Congress is only as good as the people in it. I will never understand why there isnt some mechanism for firing a rep who is blatantly not doing their job, and cant even answer a simple question about the bill they just voted on. Reading/understanding the damn bills should be mandatory.
naglebagel.bsky.social · 0 · 1h ago
Bezos destroyed an iconic newspaper.
Gail West · 23 · 3h ago
I dropped my WAPO subscription of many years when they refused to endorse Kamala. I am now a paid subscriber of Democracy Docket. Thank you Marc for the work you do! ♥️
KurtRexCooper · 5 · 3h ago
I had to look him up. He’s the editor of the National Review. I wouldn’t pay $2 to walk across the street then talk to him let alone read anything he has to say.
KurtRexCooper · 0 · 1h ago
“…street and talk…” I need to hire a copy editor.

If they really wanted to sell news and get reputation back, they would pull a Woodward Bernstein and expose the Einstein files. Calling derp throat.

You'd think people who claim to favor a "plain text" reading of the Constitution would be against the filibuster, but since all the peole who claim that are completely full of shit...
I wouldn't pay Bezos $2 for a bowl of hot ramen.
Critical Thinker · 1 · 1h ago
What exactly is an “op-ed”?
Susannah R · 1 · 3h ago
I can get far better opinions on this site alone for free.
Phil Stevens · 6 · 3h ago
Jeebus. I subscribed to the Post for years and enjoyed their OpEd page--until Bezos drove out virtually every single columnist (Rubin, Sargent, Waldman, Telnas, Rampell, Capehart, Bump, Milbank, Petri) except people like Thiessen (go figure). No one wants to pay for the shit that's left, Jeff.
Peter O’Toole · 0 · 3h ago
“This is going to ruin the podcast.” “What podcast?”
Voting them out will fix a broken Congress. Not giving the post a dime. Highly recommend Democracy Docket paid.
ambriaj.bsky.social · 0 · 3h ago
They can’t be serious. I would have zero interest in reading that even if the Post paid me $2

deety3 · 1 · 2h ago
I won't read it for free, so this is a no-brainer for me.
Most of WaPo's best writers are gone. Of course, they kept the dregs, like Marc Thiessen, George Will, Ramesh Ponnuru, et al. As a former subscriber, why would anyone pay for that? Bezos and the shitty editors he hired ruined one of the pillars of U.S. journalism.
Fearless Freddy · 0 · 37m ago
Fuck WAPO, it $2 fee, and it's paywall.

Two bucks to read somebody's opinion who might or might not know what he or she is talking about and won't stand the test of time anyway.
trevor.beyond · 0 · 2h ago
The filibuster obstructs progress. So do political parties, whose caucuses want to block or ram through legislation. Republic of democracy requires two things: • citizens of one district select one of themselves to speak for them • ethics, morality, and collaboration are used to negotiate not $$$
smknjohnny17.bsky.social · 0 · 2h ago
throwing out the waste; would be a good start! what i mean by waste are those who should never be given power in the first place! the filibuster is not in our constitution! it was added by republicans to make sure nothing passes in a democratic way! i hope if dems take both houses; they abolish it!
El Asador Aleman · 0 · 3h ago
Paying two bugs for an opinion? I don't think so.
dmglampers.bsky.social · 0 · 13m ago
WAPO op eds are intentional rage bait. The clicks are from anger not really interest. What a bunch of dolts - thinking anyone would pay for the fake counterpoint, out of touch screed. They bought their own BS apparently.
PeteNYC · 2 · 3h ago
Actually it probably means that the op-eds get even more unhinged and click-baity.
Tinweasel · 0 · 28m ago
That's exactly it. 'We can't con you into actually giving us money to subscribe, but for two bucks here's some top-tier ragebait'.
Aymhyup2 · 0 · 3h ago
Pay to read someone's opinion. Why? There are enough talking heads that I don't bother with on msm and there's never an extra charge if I do...
Dana Moore · 0 · 2h ago
Why would I even care to read that trash?
iam-s-Hon · 0 · 3h ago
I’d rather use that $2 on a PowerBall ticket than a WaPo opinion piece or almost anything else.

I canceled my WaPo subscription earlier this year and won't re-up unless and until Bezos sells the paper, and the same goes for the LA Times, my hometown paper, that used to be good but is now trash.

Dona Flaca · 0 · 2h ago

CB West Ice Hockey · 1 · 3h ago
The reason the senate won’t get rid of the filibuster is that it’s too valuable. It gives each senator the individual power to effectively veto any legislation. With that, it empowers each of them to threaten and gain leverage for what they want. They’re not giving that away for Donald Trump.
And smaller ones! mdavis19881.substack.com/p/max-miller...
SpacemanSpiff · 0 · 1h ago
They'd have to pay ME (an undisclosed amount) to read that garbage.
SkyBlah · 1 · 3h ago
When I read the first line of that, I thought you could submit an op-ed, pay $2 and they'd publish it. Like a cross between letters-to-the-editor and cheaper than classified ads.
thedad2024.bsky.social · 0 · 2h ago

Why in the name of all that is good would I PAY $2 to a compromised newspaper to read an opinion from someone I've never heard of? This is an insanely stupid idea, and one I would certainly not waste my time on.
Why would I want to read the lies of the oligarch Epstein class.

For me the market rate for a WP editorial is $100. That is how much they would need to pay me to read it.
AdkRaine · 0 · 1h ago
I make an effort not to click on their posts, and if I do, NEVER to go to their site. I do buy from Amazon, but not Prime; they have decimated small local shops and have left my choices to them or other big box stores. What Covid didn’t kill, pricing finished.

Can't they recognize rejection; they're entitled white men in America⁉️🤡
I bet there’s countless pushes to upgrade to any of a million levels of ‘elite’ statuses, all while tracking and analyzing your every click and choice, and surreptitiously surveilling you to slice you into a unique demographic. That tells them what ‘truth’ to tell you.
This surprises me. Jeff Bezos is an intelligent man with the money to hire the best in marketing. There’s something else going on here.
