It's wild how we've recreated the climate of the dust bowl but because we're so rapidly depleting aquifers for irrigation (e.g., Ogallala, Central Valley), you can drive right by without noticing the subsidence, drying streams, & dying ecosystems. When will the day of reckoning be? 🐟

🫠 Do they even read the Grapes of Wrath anymore? I think they trimmed a lot of “full novel” reading out of the curriculums. I think I will go pay bills. It may be less depressing than the rest of real life or the interwebs today.

I tried years ago, I really did. I have read East of Eden (had to buy it to replace the book I borrowed from a friend because I dropped his copy into water, haha) and Cannery Row and Of Mice and Men but I couldn't finish Grapes of Wrath. I should probably try again once I finish The Orchid Thief.
