and in particular in forging the #SocialSecurityAct, itself signed into law on August 14, 1935. Perkins was the first woman ever to serve as a U.S. cabinet secretary, and her tenure at the head of the Department of Labor from 1933 to 1945 also makes hers the longest in history.
