Hawaii braces as Lala strengthens to a Category 1 hurricane (abcnews.com)
Tropical Storm Lala has strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane as it continues to track through the central Pacific Ocean, approaching the Big Island of Hawaii on Saturday. Lala has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. It is moving to the west at 10 mph, and the center is currently located about 85 miles south-southeast of South Point, Hawaii, according to the NHC. Over 200 flights were canceled on Saturday across Hawaii as Lala approaches, according to FlightAware. Norwegian Cruise Line said some of its cruise itineraries will be impacted. Hawaii County -- the Big Island -- remains under a hurricane warning, according to the NHC. Tropical storm warnings remain up for Maui, Oahu and Kauai Counties. These include the islands of Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Kahoolawe, Kauai and Niihau. Flood Watches are also up for all of the Hawaiian Islands for heavy rain that will continue ramping up on Saturday.
