April Peters · 1 · 2d ago Basically we aren't used to this level of heat here. Can't water how I'd like to because I'm on a water meter and I appreciate everyone needs to conserve water as much as they can. I can't wait for it to rain. Some plants have died 😭
Shireen Anne Jeejeebhoy · 1 · 2d ago I was thinking you may not be able to water it but didn’t realize you’d be on a meter. I guess we are, too, tho it doesn’t cost a lot to water the gardens. But I trained my plants to subsist on rain. We seem to be having erratic deluges this year instead of normal rain patterns. Hope you get rain!

It makes me think how people will have to learn how to farm differently in a hurry, otherwise the environmental drought will lead to crop failures. Where do people get their produce when more and more places around the world are experiencing droughts?

Shireen Anne Jeejeebhoy · 1 · 2d ago That sounds wise. I’ve had success with the way I water my plants so that they’ve adapted to surviving through prolonged heat sans me watering them. Toronto has a lot of trees, and I think all that shade helps, too.

Shireen Anne Jeejeebhoy · 1 · 2d ago I recently learnt that some are using the controversial medieval warming period as a counter-“argument” to climate change. So many holes in that, but denial is a strong intellectual force. I said to one person, well prepare now or roast later. IDK about UK but El Niño will make next year worse here.
April Peters · 0 · 2d ago I'm probably not going to grow baskets or seeds next year. It soul destroying when you've invested so much time and resources into them, for the heat to destroy them. Been on a meter for a long time. It's cheaper.

I vaguely recall Toronto shifting to meter to help fund repairs. I’m used to it now.
