An innovative floating offshore solar project that generates electricity and converts seawater into drinking water. The farm near Gran Canaria produces 85 MW of renewable electricity while using that same power to operate reverse osmosis systems that desalinate seawater

Just build the solar panels on land and strengthen grid capacity and avoid this moronic idiocy. Imagine pitching someone straight faced higher initial capital costs, higher maintenance, higher risk exposure - for a miniscule *efficiency* gain (note, per solar panel, not Euro invested)

Aside from the obvious factual errors and AI slop, this is also typical green slop. Sounds nice, but highly impractical, and if you didn't know better you'd assume it to be a hostile rat fucking operation to dissuade people from actually functional solutions.

You’re somewhat correct. It’s funding from Norway and the EU for a floating solar demonstrator project at Tazacorte, La Palma. Not at Gran Canaria, not in the Med. It will look nothing like the image supplied. Look for PLOCAN/BOOST, Ocean Sun.
I dont like it. Theres so many other good choices for solar panel placement other than covering up more natural space.

Secondary source, everything links back to Facebook or Instagram.
Research will help you learn, here's two (2) links to begin with. If you take a few minutes to try to read you will find much more about all the advancements that are being done & the plans for green energy in countries internationally. The US tries to stop this yahoo.com/news cleantechnica.com
Skill issue: I googled “Spain floating solar” and got a peer reviewed publication assessing economic viability, check up the thread I pasted it.🙄
Old Man Yao Guai · 0 · 1d ago
It's an economic assessment of the viability of hypothetical offshore solar platforms. No where in the paper are the terms "osmosis" "Gran Canaria" or "desalination" written.
Omg you have to read. It’s literally in the article that they analyzed real solar farms at the sites listed. Muted bc you sound either stupid or troll-like
Old Man Yao Guai · 1 · 1d ago
A very mature answer as expected from someone who "after 5 seconds" had found a read a tens of thousands of words long paper, then claimed it was an "article" that doesn't contain any keywords to validate the original claims.

If you can make it run on coal, we'll probably embrace it here in the US.

This is not in existence at that scale. For reference that would potentially power almost 10% of all island homes & we’d hear about it in more places than Facebook or Yahoo News aggregators. It would be a topic of deep study, especially as a hybrid technology operating at that scale. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The syndicated article in "The Cool Down" derives from an Instagram post by "Engineering Facts"; as people further down have pointed out, it's early days for the plant. The pic's obviously fake, though: Who'd put a floating barrier across a harbour mouth?

Far less imaginative than the art work above, but at least real. And no, the desalination is not a feature. (Possible that it powers an on shore operation, however). Viva Espana! 🇪🇦

I remember when the United States of America were known for humanitarian efforts and innovation in science and medicine 🤔now, were known for corruption, greed, cruelty and no solutions; spoiled brat problem starters is how we're now seen on the world stage. Embarrassing #distractorinchief

OMG - where are we? Do we have all of this innovation and information but refuse to use it to benefit oil companies??We could be a leader in all of this. Oil companies could be making the same $$ if they would take this on. Save our planet! Save the critters!

That is fascinating! Hopefully in 2028 we will have a President who believes in climate change. We could put those gizmos offshore ALL around the United States! 💙If only someone someday comes up with a way to divert excessive rainwater underground from one State to another in need of water. 🤔😉

And America can't read at the forth grade level. So you see why there are no technological leaps in such energy production. And it doesn't help you have an entire industry that feels it can't include energy alternatives cas it would effect their already hideous bloated bottom line. At some point....

And that certifiably looks like shit. Solar is ugly. It's even more of a crime when we have other ways, better ways to produce energy for humanity.

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of seeing all these bullshit pie-in-the-sky posts about some new world-changing eco-technology, with an obviously AI-generated picture, but without a single citation or an iota of context? And who are the gullible rubes who keep responding, “Ooh, amazing! 🤩”??
