Photo by Kort Duce A beautiful summer morning along St. Vrain Creek in Longmont, Colorado. In this vertical color photograph, the viewer looks downstream along a creek winding through a lush riparian forest filled with vibrant shades of green and yellow. Backlit grasses line the creek bank, while sunlight illuminates countless leaves throughout the background, creating a warm, glowing scene. The creek reflects the brilliant green grasses along its banks, adding to the richness of the landscape. In the foreground, rounded creek rocks and tall flowering reeds frame the water. High above the creek in the upper left quadrant of the frame, a great blue heron perches on a fallen tree, facing the camera as it calmly preens while remaining alert to its surroundings. The tree toppled during a spring storm, providing the heron with an ideal vantage point over the creek. The next photograph is a tightly cropped version of this image, showing the heron at 100% magnification. This peaceful riparian scene is found along my favorite daily walk beside St. Vrain Creek.
