This is how I know Yake is a basic bish. Because she is all good manners with those of equal or higher social status, but has no issue humiliating anyone “below” her for asking a simple favour.

I agree! I wish sometimes that Chinese dramas would do a multi parter about older women and men. Widow of a general? Empress? Savvy merchant woman and her romance with the guy who guides her merchandise? I would adore to see it!
I’m sure there are roles out there that would fit an older actress like her perfectly
We just need some broadcaster to throw some money at it & accept that it won’t necessarily get people in their teens & 20s watching
She was so incredible as the mother in The Glory. Just looked her up and her character’s name was Ruan Xi Wen. What a titanic, Lady Macbeth type figure. She just ate every scene she was in and spit it out.
I agree - that’s definitely the best performance of hers I’ve seen; she made her character absolutely central to the drama! (the story completely revolved around that mother-daughter relationship)
Although a more modest support role, she was also an interesting nuanced character in #LovesAmbition
Another great actress is Liu Lin who played Lady Sheng in #storyofminglan and also a dynamic top lawyer in #HerPerfectHusband and then the marvelous old peasant lady in #PursuitofJade. She can do anything.
Oh yes, she’s a wonderful actress too! - capable of moving between genuine emotion & farce
She has a nice comic touch, but can play serious roles very well too 👍
I think her acting as Lady Sheng is like a masterclass: she is so stupid, so foolish, so lost that you both love and hate her. The scene where she runs out of words dealing with her idiot husband! Or where she just lowers her head and crashes into her son in a fury!
She’s a badass in any role.
