So fun story: Emerald exists because half the playerbase is Plat and the skill diff between Plat and Diamond players is disgusting. Emerald is supposed to help spread that out... But most Plat players are closer to Gold than Diamond so it effectively does nothing but make Diamond+ queue times worse.
The ranks are just labels. Adding a new one changes the mapping of MMR to rank, but it wonât change how matchmaking works. If inserting Emerald means Diamond maps to higher MMR than before, then it would increase queue times for Diamond-labeled players, but not otherwise.
Yeah, people seem to get confused about this. MMR is what determines your queue times. It's kinda in the name.
Wouldnât this make it harder for me and the boys to queue together in a narrow match?
And that would be because the meaning of the Diamond label has changed, not because adding a new label made queue times longer. In that scenario, some stretch of what is now masters would be labeled as Diamond.
then need to give us plastic rank, stop giving ranks for the 1% of player base
i think you need to research how many players were in plat beforeâŚ
There's literally no official info about that.
just because blizzard doesnât tell you outright themselves doesnât mean the data isnât available

Except... what if there is official info about that
How many?
itâs literally the most populated rank as of a while now

Damn thatâs a fucked up curve- im no math guy but shouldnât it be a bell curve? Would adding emerald even fix this?
it is a curve just not a normally distributed one (peak falls around gold/plat and trails right). i mean it might help with some of the grouping issues. the matchmaking per rank should be at least a little better due to reduced mmr difference within each rank
