Some online shoppers may have left it too late for deliveries – but you can still view partial eclipse indirectly without specs

one tip for the #eclipse. If you have nice strong shadows, If you go under fairly dense tree cover & can see dappled shadows on the ground. Because the canopy effectively makes dozens of pinhole cameras you'll see the Pacman image of eclipse on the floor www.theguardian.com/science/2026...

This is exactly how I viewed the eclipse in 1999, except it wasn't a canopy of trees it was a hole in the roof of my Royal Mail van projecting the image onto the floor.

Trees do all this all the time it's just we see round blobs of light usually & don't recognise their significance. But during the eclipse you should see the bright circle of the sun on the floor "eaten" away by the moon . Obv DON'T LOOK AT SUN DIRECTLY. OH & JOKES ABOUT TRIFFIDS ARE JUST LAME

This is the sort of image you'll see during the #eclipse under trees. Obv the circle can be more oval depending on the angle of the sun but it's much safer than some glasses from Poundland . #FunWithPhysics

You can create a similar effect with a colander... I remember doing that for an eclipse a few years ago...
