Last night I went to Film Shorts block 1:

Creature From The Deep (dir. Angus Reardon) is a lightly comic story about sacrificing the younger generation. I liked the restrained use of the monster, which is only seen through murky water or mostly out of frame.

The Hound (dir. Mihajlo Dragaš) is a computer animated adaptation of the HPL short story. There's some great imagery and setting design here, but it's flawed by the human character animation being really wooden.

Furka, or Under the Ice (dir. Michel Kessler & David Oesch) follows a scientific expedition that's been exploring a glacier a little too long. An outside auditor learns that they think the ice is speaking to them, but is that just delusion? Gorgeous cinematography, and being isolated with possibly-insane people is always a good hook for tension.

Superconscious (dir. Christianne Hedtke) is spectacular. Two psychic researchers in the 1970s are doing remote viewing. It becomes clear that they're working for a shadowy agency, and one psychic has a past secret. Strong X-Files and 70s spy vibes, and the story is just begging for expansion.

Sleepwalker (dir. Mukilan Thangamani) is also excellent. A crime-scene cleanup guy finds a cloth shroud at the scene of a suicide, along with the man's journals. When activated with blood, the shroud sends his consciousness into a random person in the world, and this quickly proves addictive. But what's left behind when he's doing this? Well-shot and with a really promising creepy concept.
