We were lucky to see this solitary critically endangered Black-necked Stork in Sri Lanka the only one in the Bundala National Park and one of only 7 left in Sri Lanka in 2017. It was doubly sad to learn this one was building a nest for the second year in a row in the hopes of finding a mate, which was highly unlikely given the others were way too far away. It was drawing near to the end of the day and we were late leaving the park. Our guides said it was unusual for this bird to appear while there was anyone in the park.
