Most important counter point: TOP intends to gut all sorts of welfare in response. I want to see research on the effects of THAT aspect, or else all the research in the universe means diddly squat about the experience we would face under this harsh “one or the other” regime TOP intends to create.
TOP is just act dressed in teal
TOPs version of UBI is a top up for the rich and a death sentence for the poor. Vote green if you actually want us povvos to not be poor.

Yes it works, BUT ONLY IF the UBI as a replacement for benefits is adequate to live on, in fact just below what a Living Wage is. "2/ Their UBI is a benefit cut. It’s. A. Benefit. Cut." [ bsky.app/profile/ghet... ] TOP is progressive with a minus - further public service cuts etc, #nzpol

The real problem for Opportunity is that even if they make it into parliament they're going to struggle to get enough wins on the board to show the people who voted for them this time

NZers who gonna vote TOP that think a National govt partnered with ACT would ever go near a UBI are delusional. And a land tax? Winnie would finally die…

They've been expectation setting more recently about the ability to do UBI/LVT in a first or second term which is obviously necessary but then raises the question of what a political win looks like for them inside parliament in 3 to 6 years

It’s definitely something they’re cognisant of. You’d expect them to prioritise policy that will support long term goals like tax reform. Eg limiting political party financing and transparency so all parties have a fair go, common sense controls around lobbying, and Citizen’s Voice / Assemblies.

I'm really curious to see how it plays out of they get in because a lot of the time they come across as quite politically naive to me

Yeh - none (except their GM) are politicians. They may be politically naive, but you don’t get their polling by being stupid, either. Will be interesting to see how quickly they learn.

Oh they're definitely not stupid. Like I said it'll be interesting to watch
