The anise swallowtail (Papilio zelicaon) gets its name because its caterpillars love to eat plants in the carrot and parsley family (Apiaceae). This includes sweet fennel, which is commonly known as "wild anise." It was a rare sight in my garden.

Oh wow! She looks a bit weathered. It amazes me how durable these beauties are. When I was a little kid my Mom said when she comes back she wants to come back as a Butterfly. I said but they don't live very long. She said yes, but think of the free, happy life they live. 🦋❤️
