A screenshot of my video of the 2024 total eclipse. I traveled from North Carolina to Ohio to see it. One of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Highly recommend for everyone’s bucket list!

2/7 In Spain totality takes place in the evening, shortly before sunset — for example in León between 8:28 and 8:30 p.m. local time. In much of Europe, it will be only partial, with high coverage in the north. In northern North America, it will be partial during the day.

6/7 During totality the sky grows dark like twilight and the solar corona — the outer atmosphere of the Sun — becomes visible. ONLY during those minutes is it possible to observe with the naked eye; during partial phases, certified filters are ALWAYS required.

WARNING: Do NOT look straight at the Sun at any time, even when partially eclipsed, without certified solar eclipse glasses or another approved filter. Doing so can cause irreversible damage to your eyes.

It will be partial here (around sunset 19:50-20:30) and later on the Perseid are giving a show in the night sky 🤩😁👍

Yes, in many places the eclipse will be partial & visible in the evening around sunset. And you’re right — the Perseid meteor shower peaks on the same night, so after the partial eclipse ends there should be a good chance to see some meteors if the sky is clear. Enjoy the show wherever you are!🤩

Please forgive me for saying so, but these WARNINGS to "NOT look straight at the Sun at ANY TIME, even when partially eclipsed, without certified #SolarEclipseGlasses or another approved filter", that are apparently obligatory these days, are "overkill". It's OK to look at the Sun at certain times.

1/2 The warning refers to any moment when part of the Sun’s bright disk is still visible (i.e. the partial phases). As I wrote in post 6 of the thread, the only exception is the brief period of totality itself, when the Moon completely covers the Sun. Only then is it safe to look with the naked eye.
