The butterfly as the logo and all its bits make sense in context: recently diagnosed AuDHD, endless curiosities to chase, sensory issues, finding ways to regulate, searching for understanding… But there is a part of AuDHD that has shaped me into the person that I am that I have not found represented
My experience of #RejectionSensitivityDysphoria (#RSD) is that rejection, criticism, disappointment or failure, or even the possibility of them, can trigger an emotional and often physical pain that I struggle to explain.
I still get pains in my stomach or chest or head, because I cannot understand duplicity or why someone would choose to hurt a person they cared about. The hurt is as real and physical today as it was in the moment ~ whether that was days, months or years ago...
And just like whiskers, I can sense it coming before it arrives…
The flash of a facial expression.
A slight shift in their tone.
A pause or big breath.
Something feeling "off".
Something someone didn't say.
A stirring in the atmosphere.
Whiskers extend the sensory world beyond vision, detecting air currents & helping navigate spaces. They can feel objects & the vibrations around objects. They can tell that something is there without even touching it… they provide a way to experience the world differently. Just like RSD does for me.
Sometimes, an overload of sensory input, as although the antennae already reach out in a conscious search for information, the whiskers collect information without my consciously looking for it.
Sometimes things I wish they didn't…
I don’t just notice things, I notice the things around the thing.
And that's what happened with my logo. I could sense the missing piece, but couldn't place it… And then Cleopatra jumped onto my chest, whiskers vibrating, and suddenly I knew. The missing piece was my RSD, the whiskers. The logo is who and where I am right now.
