Jason has his motorcycle shop; he could get into cars and decide not to ride his bike anymore b/c its dangerous, and he has to stay alive for the only son TPTB will let him recognize.

So not only did Jason return and then run off with his son before telling Carly he was back, but Jason quit working for Sonny and didn’t tell Carly until now. She should be questioning everything at this point.
