#fridayFling "bake." Amusingly (to me), for a book in which Sam is not a main character, he's still the one mentioned in conjunction with baking. This is from the forthcoming Wisconsin Gothic number 6, The Whole Wide World. (Forthcoming when? Early 2027, I believe.)



“Speaking of, where is Sam?” Laz asked.

“Our neighbor convinced him to sign up for a race, so they’re running from Madison to Stoughton this morning.” 

Celeste looked up from doing something complicated with her knitting. “That must be twenty miles.”

Ulysses nodded. “I’m going down to pick him at eleven.” He looked at the kids, then over at Celeste. “Apparently there's a bake sale at the Stoughton Public Library after the race.”

Celeste didn't glance up from her knitting. "Nice day for it."
