after hundreds of years watching life grow and wither away, any immortal being would begin to grow jaded and apathetic towards mortality and burning spice always wondered how burnt sugar firebird seemed so unaffected by it all. 1/6
not only had it experienced the endless cycle longer than him but even when death did come for it, it always woke back up sooner or later. the more spice grew apathetic to his own virtue and the vibrant life around him the more he started to view burnt sugar's gift of rebirth as a curse that 2/6
it must be silently suffering through. when spice had finally accepted death would never come for him like it did his people, he decided at the very least he would grant them all the mercy of dying by his hands rather than each others, like a shepherd needing to butcher its lovingly raised sheep 3/6
and unfortunately for it, burnt sugar would be the first to fall by his hands when he finally broke, its head being severed and later kept far from the rest of its body to keep it from recovering. 4/6
this is the night after his initial breakdown, having dragged burnt sugar's [mostly] lifeless body to their bed and removing its wings in some twisted hope of preserving some part of it. overcome with remorse spice tried to convince himself that it was for the best, 5/6
that he spared his love from being stuck in their horrible cycle any longer, it was finally free and would serve as a constant reminder and punishment on himself until he would be sealed away and firebird's body could finally be recovered. 6/6
