Eglise de Saint Barthelemy, Manche. Not sure who did these windows. Saint Barthelemy was apparently fllayed then crucified for good measure, and is the patron saint of butchers, tanners and bookbinders

A stained glass window from Saint Barthelemy church, modern inn style, a small rounded arch, with small squares of very lightly tinted glass - mint, pale orange, gold, sky blue etc. - and in brighter colours the words "AIMEZ-VOUS COMME JE VOUS AI AIMES"

(from John 13:34, "That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another")

Oh that's gorgeous. Great photo too.

Many thanks! There are some other more conventional windows in the church which I will be posting when less frazzled but I like these ones best, partly because they're a bit more muted than is the norm in the region, though at the same time the brighter accents, if that's the word, really pop

Yes, and a lovely sentiment too. The whole window setting and arch is very pleasing to the eye, especially with those shadows and reflections.

Thanks for the repost btw! And yeah, it is a nice message, though because I don't know anything about the Bible I at first thought "aimez-vous" meant "love yourself" as opposed to "love one another". But then I remembered it was an old window and not a 90s self-help paperback

Not that there's anything wrong with attempting to respect yourself, it just doesn't seem very biblical though I guess I could be wrong

Oh, I interpreted it as "Love as you wish to be loved" although I know that's not the literal translation. I was probably influenced by the old "treat others as you wish to be treated" biblical thing.

Oh gosh I don't know, maybe that's just a more modern version. In my Alt Text I used the King James Version because, like all non-Christian twats who hang around churches, I just like the way it sounds, maaan

I much prefer the old timey Bible language. It's been a long, long time since I was remotely religious (having been forcibly, from birth, right up to convent grammar school) and whenever I see any of the updated stuff, it glitches my brain.

Haha I can well believe it. My family was reactively secular and we only had one hour of RE a week for a year at my uk primary school, but even that was enough to make the new stuff seem wrong

Also kind of like the scuffed walls, I dunno, it reminds me of lichen
